Is God With Us?

This Book Changed My Life!
As I was greatly encouraged to read this book, I would not be exaggerating when I say, "This book literally changed my life". To read material that is SO unconditionally loving, was opposite from what I experienced in this life, but at the same time, it was very familiar to me. After reading this book it helped me to remember the truth in everything that has always been. It greatly assisted me to release all issues I had in this life and go forward with nothing to hinder me in any way. This book truly reflects a great amount of love...unconditionally! I wasn't able to read this book without experiencing tears as I felt the encouragement, support and LOVE in the words, from the Source from which it came. I have never read a book that had personally touched each individual in their own way, knowing that the information is for them...there is no mistake in that! W.Weston Jolly is truly a gift from above. It is very obvious to me that he is one with the love and light of all. As W. Weston Jolly reflected in this book, he is open to be a loving vessel to deliver information to everyone that wants to be one with the truth, knowing there are no mistakes to fear in anything. I thank W. Weston Jolly for the many, many gifts in the words that have been passed to me and many others that desire to find the truth...the truth in all that has and will always be in each of us in all that surrounds us. I Thank You W.Weston Jolly and I SO look forward to your next!

And so it is!
If I were cast away on a desert island and could have only one book with me there, I might well choose W. Weston Jolly's book "Is God With Us?" Not only is it the essence of a great conduit for the Highest Source, it is also a very powerful and vibrant statement of someone who opens themself with true clarity and vulnerability. Weston Jolly shares some of his journey to where he is in his evolvement now in this wonderful new book. I resonated in admiration and awe at what he was able to allow and attract by his powerful questioning, listening, and true Divine guidance. It's all here,is my point . . . All you need to know about life, it's experiences, and how to realize who and where you are right now. Desert island or not, if you have found your way to this book (even "accidentally") you are on your Divine Path. This book is a wonderful spirit filled gift to a world on the road to enlightenment. I have been gifted in my life by many great teachers, some of them living saints and angels. Weston is among those because of his enormous capacity to listen and to be in unconditional love while sharing the light. Weston teaches with wisdom and truly must live what he teaches. I am deeply honored to invite you to make this book part of your life. YOU ARE WORTH IT!

Is God With Us?
I was very moved by this book -- it rang of truth throughout the entire context. I appreciate its candor, as well as the kindness with which it came through. I am eagerly awaiting the next one.

Love Makes a Family: Portraits of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Parents and Their Families
Published in Paperback by Univ. of Massachusetts Press (May, 1999)
Authors: Gigi Kaeser, Peggy Gillespie, Kath Weston, and April Martin
Average review score:

An absolute treasure
Being bisexual and polyamory I was a tad sad that the bisexuals are hard to find in the book. Thus this is an excellent book for those who want personal insight into gay and lesbian families. Who want an honest and wonderful look at some fellow Americans and neighbors.

The book is just over 250 pages and consists of wonderful first person interviews and awesome photography. But what I was so moved by and what I hope the reader pauses to read and seriously reflect on is the authors opening text "I have a thin stack of photographs from my fiftieth birthday party. This morning I've drawn them from a crumpled white envelope to look at them for the first time since that evening..."

She then goes on to describe the photos which included her now grown sons and when they were ages seven and eight, and how the photo was taken just prior to her having to take them to her ex-husband who had "..wrested custody of them from me. He had had me declared an unfit mother, because I am a lesbian." How she saw them in her rearview mirror crying as she drove off..." This alone moved me to tears as it was and is such a profound note of how we have allowed the courts to treat people who stop lying and admit they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered or polyamory. Thus the book is born and the new life of openness and light is given to society.

Look at the pictures and read the words you will see your neighbor, the aunt, uncle, sister, brother, friend. All hardworking and wonderful. Struggling with the same day to day issues every family struggles with. Professionals in law and medicine, engineering and academia. Blue collar and organic garden minded. All races, shapes and religions.

It is also a wonderful life giving reminder that here in the United States, if you have a birth family who doesn't love you as you deserve, that you have every [darn] right to choose new family from those amongst your friends who will make you feel loved, wanted and needed. This is such a human right and needs to be said more often.

Very Interesting, Very Surprising
What I enjoyed about this book is that it covered not only the people like me (gay, male, plans to have children), but it also gave me an insight into some others who have very different lives but the same issues of "alternative-ness." It actually contained a few surprises and gave me some ideas about how a family could be built from things I'd never considered before.

fantastic
a look into the lives of different people. it makes one think that one in simular cercumstances is not alone.A infomative book that shows real people in real lives. well done!! It does need though, more family portrates of transgendered people. Im glad I waited over two monthes for this book.

Reclaiming the Commons : Community Farms and Forests in a NewEngland Town
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (August, 1999)
Authors: Brian Donahue and Wes Jackson
Average review score:

A must read!
Reclaiming the Commons is an excellent read for anyone interested in the natural history of New England, community farming, open space issues, and the value of farms in the landscape. This is a well written, thoughtful book that offers an inspiring vision for a future of locally produced food, protected farmland, and community involvement that farms help to create.

A book that will inspire action
In Reclaiming the Commons, Brian Donahue has given us a remarkable portrait of a thriving community farm in Weston, Massachusetts called Land's Sake. In 1980 the nonprofit organization Land's Sake was formed in Weston, a suburb of Boston, to work closely with the town's Conservation Commission on managing and using the town's growing public land. Its three founding principles were to care ecologically for Weston's land, to involve the community and especially young people with the land, and to be as self-supporting as possible through the sale of products and services. By thinking of the land as a rural space that could "benefit from our presence, rather than need to be protected from us," they opened the possibility that they could engage suburban youth with the land and produce high-quality natural products for local sale, offering ample educational and recreational activities while striking "a balance between protecting natural ecosystems and making sustainable, productive use of the land."

Land's Sake sends about one-fifth of their fresh organic produce to Boston's homeless shelters and food pantries, as well as sponsoring a Harvest for Hunger every September, thus ensuring that their surplus finds an assured wholesale market (the town pays the price to send the food to the inner city) which benefits the disadvantaged and disenfranchised in the nearby urban areas. Donahue shows that suburbia "is the condition of residing outside the city proper with little functional connection to one's neighbors, aside from the schools, and almost no functional connection to the land," and he shows that community farms on common land offer a vibrant opportunity to keep farmland from being lost to development, and to transform the suburban condition from alienation to connection. This is a surprisingly powerful and exciting book that will show suburban and city readers how to become more connected to their land and to their source of food.

This is a fresh approach to sustainable suburban living.
This book, written by a newcomer in the environmental landscape, will become a landmark. It points the way to transform the suburban way of life into one that is sustainable. This it would do by converting suburban open spaces into community sanctuaries for agriculture, husbandry and forestry, administered by suburbanites themselves, especially by their youngsters. The great strength of the proposals is that they have been demonstrated to work by the author and his associates in the upscale Boston suburb of Weston. Another plus is the grace and humor with which the book is blessed.

Art in Residence : West Coast Artists in Their Space
Published in Paperback by Blue Heron Pub (13 May, 2000)
Authors: Kurt Edward Fishback, Henry Hopkins, and Cole Weston
Average review score:

A Visually Stunning Book, Black and White at its finest
This book is both very beautiful and informative. Kurt's images allow you to really see the artist and the surroundings that help them create their work. Kurt looks at both their outer body and their inner soul.

I highly recommend this book for any person who loves both Art and Photography

Artists in Their Environment
I met Kurt about 5 years ago. He was teaching a class at The Workshops in Rockport, Maine. I was immediately impressed with Kurt's work and his uncanny ability to capture the essence of his subject at the defining moment. Kurt's vision is timeless, and this work demonstrates his ability to make powerful images with only Tri-X and available light. This is an excellent book for the serious amateur photographer who wants to refine his own photographic vision. You won't be disappointed.

"Art in Residence: West Coast Artists in Their Space"
I have been one of Kurt Edward Fishback's students for the past year and have been looking forward to the publication of this book. It is truly an extraordinary and prodiqious work and should be of interest to everyone. It makes artists accessable to the public. Lonnie

The Book of Think
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2001)
Authors: Marilyn Burns and Martha Weston
Average review score:

Get this for your children!!!
I was given this book as a child. It was one of the best gifts I ever got. Every child should have this book, and every parent should read it, too.

I still own my copy from 16 years ago!
I just pulled out my copies of this book and The I Hate Mathematics Book! to show to someone. I read them both prolifically from years 8-12 or so, and to this day pick them up occasionally. I was curious to see if it was still in print, and pleasantly suprised. My copy of this book is so well worn, the cover is falling off of it.

The Book of Think, simply put, is a book that teaches critical thinking skills. The puzzles are fun, and sometimes a bit surreal. The skills learned are invaluable. I believe this series was recommended to us by a gifted education teacher. They strongly shaped my formative years. I remember staying home and reading these two books, and others in the series. They are loaded with practical problems and hands on tools to use. I am sure that a teacher could find lots of great activities for students with these books.

Quick, click on the link and purchase this book, Hate Mathematics, I am not a short adult, Blood and Guts, The Reason for Seasons, This book is about Time... get them all before they are out of print. You won't be disappointed. It may be the best purchase you have ever made for your children and/or students. Maybe even yourself! I think I'll reread them all.

Lisa

This book is not just for kids!
This book is one of my favorites for group activities, ice breakers, and getting a staff team to start thinking creatively. It is perfect for anyone who likes a challenge and the answers not just handed to them. I have given these books as gifts to adults and see them use the exercises over and over. Highly recommended. (Maybe even your kids would like it.)

Eenie Meenie Miney Math
I agree this book is so outstanding that it is a crying shame that it is no longer published. This is a small paperback filled with colorful, amusing, illustrations and loaded with wonderful and easily implemented math/play ideas for the preschool crowd. It is useful for parents who want to explore the world of math together with their child and have one whale of a good time doing it. It is a wonderful resource for preschool teachers and can be easily adapted to Kindergarten and First Grade Math Curriculum. Anyone who is familiar with the work of Jean Piaget will treasure this book.

A crying shame that these are no longer printed!
This whole series is so good! Great illustrations and each page chock full of ideas to teach your child in any setting. I play some of these games with my son while we are driving down the road, in the grocery store, at bathtime, etc. Wonderful and fun ideas for even the busiest parents. These authors really know what works with preschoolers!

Essentials of Managerial Finance
Published in Paperback by Harcourt Brace College Publishers (August, 1995)
Author: Weston
Average review score:

Maximizing shareholder value
I used this book for a 500-level MBA finance class, and I have to admit I liked it. The first 3/4's of the book drive home the financial manager's objective: Maximizing shareholder value. It does this consistently, and actually got me (A Sales Manager) to understand why profit needs to take a back seat to value.

Like all introductory texts, it skimps a little on complexity. However, I truly have an appreciation now for finance. Many decisions my company makes now make sense. Though I have little need to apply financial concepts in my current job, I can give better 'business reason' explanations to my reports when they ask. Which is why I began pursuing an MBA in the first place.

Enough to avoid Finance mistakes
This new edition of the classical title looks very informative and meaningful. Perhaps a little bit more strong in the mathematical treatment will provide the customers with a text more atractive. Anyhow, it is still a good text for beginners.

Dr. Guillermo E. Martinez.

Excellant materials for the study of finance.
The book is fairly easy to understand. Students with little or no background in accounting were able to grasp the subject and understand the material. Thoroughly enjoyed using the text. Would have liked to see a web site available to use with the book. The test bank was effective and a time saver. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone wishing to use up-to-date materials with which to teach the subject of finance. Can be used in both a regular semester and a condensed class.

How an Ordinary Woman Can Have an Extraordinary Life: The Formula for the Art of Living Well

How an Ordinary Woman Can Have an Extraordinary Life
This book is a true treasure. Joy shares with her readers insights and simple tips to help change a life in a moments time-no exercises, no time consuming assignments, just simple straight to the point good advice. Her congenial approach makes this book a great read. A MUST for every women out there, regardless of age, race or socioeconomic status-if you are truly looking for an extraordinary life-read this book.

Self-empowerment at its best!
"How an Ordinary Woman Can Have an Extraordinary Life" immediately caught my attention, because the title was so intriguing. And once I began reading this book, it was one I simply could not put down!
I've read my share of motivational books, but feel this is truly one of the best. The stories Joy Weston uses are ones we can all relate too, but the power is also in Joy's messages. Even with an advanced degree, I've found myself in situations where I feel I've been taken advantage of, and Joy's chapter, "Self Respect - Teach People How You Want to Be Treated" was the first one I read. Over the past few years I've discovered the power that positive thinking can have; as ar result, I particularly loved Joy's point about changing the energy to create "positive change" and her friend M.J.'s use of a simple question, "What is the best thing that has happened to you today?"
"How an Ordinary Woman Can Have an Extraodinary Life" is truly self empowerment at its best!

The book that every woman should read
How an Ordinary Woman Can Have an Extraordinary Life
is truly the one book that every woman should read.
Not only is the material set-up perfectly for any
busy woman to read, each story and tip takes about
5 minutes, but you can really get instant results!

It was so easy to relate to her in almost every story,
and so easy for me to follow her wise advice.
I have bought 10 books so far, which I have given to
various members of my family and friends. Everyone of
them loved it and has since bought more books for their
extended family and friends.
If you get to read this Joy, Thank You So Much for making
this "wise woman's handbook" available to all women.
If ever there was a bok that women needed during these
difficult and unsettling times, this one it it!
I can't wait to read your next book! M.Miller

Appalachian Galapagos
Published in Hardcover by Medium Rare Books (January, 2003)
Authors: Weston Ochse and David Whitman
Average review score:

A Meaningful Addition to Southern Fiction
There are those writers who, having found what works, rewrite the same novel for the rest of their careers. David Whitman and Weston Ochse are not those writers. With the success of "Scary Rednecks and Other Inbred Horrors", the duo decided to team up once again for this much anticipated sequel. This collection is simply brillant. It's frightening and yet causes aching belly laughs, it makes you want to look away in horror and repulsion, but you simply cannot. The characters are warm, loyal, stupid, funny and surprisingly insightful. The depth and talent in these stories cannot be overlooked. If you buy this book you are not only guaranteed a good read but also a wild ride along the river of humanity.

Wild & Wacky Redneck Horror
These two maniacs read some of this book at the Horrorfind Convention in 2002 and had the audience on the floor in hysterics. Droll, witty, over-the-top black humor (and genuine scares) from two of the brightest new minds in genre fiction. "Scary Rednecks and Other Inbred Horrors" was black-humored and amusing, but this collection manages to outshine it. Not to be missed.

Private and Personal : Questions and Answers for Girls Only
Published in Paperback by HarperTrophy (04 April, 2000)
Author: Carol Weston
Average review score:

Doesn't have all the answers, covers major preteen questions
Carol Weston offers sound advice on appearance, puberty, popularity, friendship, family relationship, and love in this question and answer book for girls in grades 5-8. All the writing is garnered from letters received and replies sent while she wrote an advice column for Girl's Life magazine.

Grouped by subject, each question is followed by a brief answer. Weston sympathizes, compliments, validates and advises in a positive way, offering sample things to say, suggesting the use of "I" statements, and recommends communication always. Occasionally, she slips up. For example, a girl who complains of a group of boys who type 60067355 (boobless) on a calculator and hold it upside down in front of her face because she is flat-chested is told "life gets easier after middle school," and maybe as the dorks mature, they will realize they don't need to put others down to make themselves feel better. She should have told the girl to tell an adult, that this is sexual harassment. In another section, she advises a girl who no longer has a crush on the boy she liked to tell her friends thatshe couldn't see what she ever saw in that dork. In other places, she recommends not talking about people in this sort of way! Lastly, in cases of extreme gas and halitosis, she doesn't make mention of medical condition or seeking hte advice of a health care professional. No further reading, websites, etc are cited at the end, although several are mentioned elsewhere in the book. Weston doesn't credit any of her own sources, either. Surprisingly, she doesn't include her mailing or email address for girls with other questions.

Still, this will be a popular book. The tone is chatty, reassuring, non-judgemental and empowering. The fun bright cover features retro 60's style and a photo of four friends of different culture linked arm in arm. There are no graphics, and the layout is very simple, with the questions in bold and italics, and the responses in a regular font. Chapter and section headings have a funky font. While the format itself (an answer directly following each question) could have been less redundant by putting a few questions first, then addressing the issue as a whole, the book is very browseable in the Q&A layout.

While this book doesn't have all the answers, it covers the major ones in a non-threatening way. Sure to be popular with middle school girls -- and the parents who might want to know what their daughters are thinking about.

No girl is completely alone
I loved this book! It was really great! It helped me through a lot of things and it acually still does! I still go through it and read it. Every girl out there should have this book!

At last, a book that has better answers than I do!
Carol Weston is every parent's dream -- she's a smart, funny, and very sensible writer who knows just what questions are bothering girls today (including my daughters) and answers those questions in a frank, informative manner. She knows how to talk to her readers, and she knows what ground to cover. I couldn't endorse this book more heartily.
